Moment in Time
Covid-19 memory box project
What is this project and why now?
The idea for this project evolved through my experiences of working with different individuals, groups and organisations during the Covid 19 pandemic. Everyone that I worked with had experienced some form of loss or disruption to their lives - from bereavements, to changes in working patterns and routines - and everyone had stories to tell.
As we move forward into what remains an uncertain future, I began to wonder how we could capture these stories, share memories and make some meaning from the pandemic. The idea of a ‘time capsule’, or memory box seemed a fitting way of capturing these experiences, as final restrictions are lifted, and we move into a different phase.
I am delighted and privileged to be partnering with the National Care Forum (NCF) and the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA), who have both played such a vital role during the pandemic. I hope the project will play its own small part in creating shared meaning and memories from this often challenging ‘moment in time.’
How do I take part?
The project is a collaboration between Beacon Consultancy, the National Care Forum (NCF) and the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) and is focussed on the social care sector which has carried such a heavy burden during the pandemic. However, anyone can take part and we encourage everyone to find a box and use the resources provided to decorate and create their ‘moment in time.’ Template artwork and other resources can be found in the Information booklet, or via the links below. All you need is a box, some imagination and a few ideas of what to place in your box. You will find all sorts of ideas in the resources provided below. You can use any box you like - from a Pringles box to a bespoke ornamental container - its your moment in time and your choice.
There is a dedicated hash tag on Twitter - #Momentintime21 - please share your photos or send them to the NAPA website : http://napa-activities.co.uk
What will happen to my box?
As July 19th marks another phase of the pandemic, we will open the boxes collectively on the same day in 2022. Until then you can find artwork, ideas and resources here:

Here is a video to show what can be done: https://vimeo.com/571191895
If, after the unlocking date you want to retain your box as a resource for future generations you can choose to do so and maybe even keep adding to it as time goes by.
Are there any disadvantages to taking part?
For many people the pandemic has been a time of significant loss and many challenges. If you find participating difficult, you can contact any of the three partner organisations, who all offer different forms of support - or simply decide not to participate.
A full GDPR statement is also available on the NAPA website.
We hope that you will want to join with us in making memories from this unparalleled moment in time and we look forward to sharing with you.
