Managing Grief, loss and bereavement during Anniversaries, Festivals and Public Holidays.
This training is focussed on helping practitioners to recognise the potential impacts of public holidays, anniversaries, and other festivals on bereaved people. These anniversaries can range from personal events like birthdays to public occasions such as Christmas and Mother’s Day and may illicit powerful emotions, from guilt to anger. These emotions may affect people’s ability to function at these times and can result in poor staff performance and sickness absence. The training will focus on becoming aware of the potential impacts of anniversaries and other events and will help delegates to create strategies for supporting bereaved people. The importance of religious and cultural practices will be considered, alongside the fear of saying the ‘wrong’ thing, whilst creating and enhancing confidence in communicating with bereaved people. At the end of the training delegates will have developed their personal and professional awareness, explored their own attitudes and beliefs, enhanced their listening and communication skills, and generally improved their confidence in this often sequestered area.
