Bereavement, Loss, Culture and Diversity
This training is designed to explore how the experience and expression of grief differs across cultures and how this in turn may impact on the ways in which individuals mourn. The training will discuss and describe different rituals and the role of these in helping to manage the impact of bereavement, with a particular focus on rebuffing the idea of ‘normal’ grieving. There will be a focus on religious and spiritual beliefs, as well as other customs and rituals, including dress codes and behaviour at ceremonies, different emotional and behavioural responses to grief, care of the body both before and after death, appropriate gifts, offerings and condolences. The training will make use of audio-visual resources and experiential discussion to help delegates become more knowledgeable and confident in supporting bereaved people from diverse cultures
